Youth Ball Hockey

Kamloops Ball Hockey Association is one of the fastest growing youth sports programs in the city, with over 200 players registered in 2025. We are proud to offer a program that puts fun first while building real skills, lasting friendships, and a love of the game.

Our youth program is open to players ages 5 to 18, with divisions designed to meet kids where they are developmentally and keep every floor time engaging, safe, and competitive.

Why Ball Hockey?

Ball hockey is played on the dry floor of a full-size hockey rink, making it a fantastic sport on its own and an excellent cross-training option for hockey players of all levels. Players develop skills that carry over to every sport they play, including:

  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Positioning and hockey sense
  • Cardio and stamina
  • Teamwork and strategy

Our Divisions

U6 (Ages 4-5)
U6 is our brand new introductory division, designed for the youngest players who are just discovering the game. Sessions focus on basic movement, stickhandling, and having fun in a supportive, low-key environment. No experience necessary, just a love of playing.

U8 (Ages 5-7)
U8 is all about fun and getting comfortable with the game. Players work on ball skills, shooting, passing, and basic positioning in a low-pressure, encouraging environment. Each floor time wraps up with cross-floor mini games, and every player who wants to will get a chance to play goalie.

U10 (Ages 8-9) U10 players get their first taste of full-floor, officiated ball hockey. Each session starts with a warmup and skill-building practice before finishing with a game that counts toward season standings.

U12 (Ages 10-11) U12 builds on the fundamentals with more structured practice time and competitive games. Referees, standings, and playoffs give players something to work toward all season long.

U14 (Ages 12-13) - NEW for 2027
We are excited to be launching a dedicated U14 division for the 2027 season as our youth program continues to grow. U14 players will compete in a full season with referees, standings, and the opportunity to represent Kamloops at the provincial level. Registration details will be available ahead of the 2027 season.

U16 (Ages 14-15) - NEW for 2027
A dedicated U16 division is coming for the 2027 season, giving players in this age group their own competitive home. U16 athletes will compete at a high level with full officiating, standings, and the chance to qualify for provincial championships. Stay tuned for registration information as the 2027 season approaches.

U18 (Ages 16-17) - NEW for 2027
We are excited to be launching a dedicated U18 division for the 2027 season. Players who are currently 16 or older are welcome to join our Adult Co-Ed Recreation league in the meantime, and we look forward to welcoming this age group into their own division next year.

What Equipment Do I Need?

  • Jock/cup or jill
  • Hockey stick (most players use a regular ice hockey stick)
